A short layover in Hong Kong

We're in Hong Kong!

After two flights, for a total of 13h in the air, we got to Hong Kong, tired, and jet lagged, but excited to start our new journey. All we hoped for was getting some rest, but that wasn't as easy as we thought it would be. After getting to our so called guesthouse with 74kg of luggage, the friendly lady told us they were fully booked, and we had to move to another one of her hotels. It was only a 5-10min walk, but with two huge bags each, that wasn't an easy feat. Luckily, the lady got a little trolley, and after zigzagging through little back alleys and streets, we got to another place by 9. It's super tiny, and with our luggage on the floor, we can barely make it to the bathroom, but it has a bed, airconditioning and even a tiny window, so for now it's good enough.

We got to Hong Kong with little idea of what to visit (we mainly planned the New Zealand trip, of course), so we're letting the city surprise us! First impressions are definitely lots of people, all those people, people everywhere, and wow, more people. But all kidding aside, it really does feel like any big city, with tons of shops and restaurants, and a vibrant, alive feeling everywhere. We used our first day (today) to sleep in, get some information from the tourist office, and just walk around a little bit. We also went to the light show that runs every night at the harbor, and just concluded that people are just everywhere, and that I (Myrjam) remain small here, so I wasn't able to see above people's heads. The show itself wasn't very impressive (also, my camera died right when we got there), but the harbor view is quite the sight, with tons of colorful lights everywhere, even after the light show.

We're definitely excited to explore some more of Hong Kong. Although New Zealand is calling, we're enjoying some time to relax and take a holiday, before job and house hunting next week!
